Rare Books
Macao Public Library house a collection of approximately 40,000 rare books, including Chinese and Western texts published before 1950 which are located at the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library and the Senado Library. The ‘Chinese Ancient Books Chamber’ (a rare- collections building) at Sir Robert Ho Tung Library currently has some 20,000 Chinese rare books, of which 16 are precious rare books from the Jiaye Book Library Tower previously collected by renowned modern bibliophile Liu Chenggan. Among these 16 books, the Manuscript of Siku Quanshu’s Synopsis by Weng Fanggang is of intrinsic value. Moreover, the Senado Library houses a collection of approximately 20,000 foreign ancient texts, varying from the 16th to 20th Century historical documents of the Portuguese presence in the Far East to literature of Portugal’s policy in its overseas colonies.

貝山雅“梅花菴”藏書中的LF類
庇山耶，號貝山雅（Camilo Pessanha, 1867- 1926），在他的藏書中，有38本是法國文學類別的書。今期要介紹的是小說類，與本書 L'immortel : moeurs parisienes 合釘在一起的有Tartarin de Tarascon和Port-Tarascon。
L'immortel : moeurs parisienes的作者是“阿爾封斯•都德”（Alphonse Daudet, 1840 - 1897），法國寫實派小說家。相信大家在中學時期都讀過《最後一課》，這篇短篇小說就是Daudet的佳作。他生於法國南部普羅旺斯地區的尼姆（Nîmes），他用樸實而略帶傷感的筆調，將家鄉普羅旺斯的日常生活和風土人情融入小說之中，深受讀者歡迎。1869年Daudet出版短篇故事集《磨坊書簡》（Lettres de mon moulin），其中一篇散文《詩人密斯特拉》是他描寫其好友腓特烈•密斯特拉（Frédéric Mistral，1830－1914），一位以普羅旺斯語寫作的法國諾貝爾文學獎獲得者。他和Daudet都是守護普羅旺斯文學的代表者。庇山耶也藏有Mistral的著作Nerto : poema provencal，庇山耶對“大自然風光”的文學作品“情有獨鍾”，這與他出生在Coimbra、學習在Lamego, Mondego, Coimbra及工作在Óbidos的環境有關。庇山耶跟隨著父親在葡萄牙北部蒙德古河一帶生活，這些地方遠離大城市的雜氣，培養了他成為一個相對感性、熱愛自然、哲思惟文的“詩人律師”。
本古籍L'immortel : moeurs parisienes（不朽的巴黎禮儀）全書分為16章節，作者Daudet用諷刺手法講述巴黎文學沙龍內的社交活動，如何用各種不光彩的手段去舉薦作家為法蘭西學院院士（Académie Francaise）。他又根據真實的Vrain Lucas大騙案，道出公證員Denis Vrain Lucas於1861 至1869年如何將一批偽造的手稿、古代名人的簽名和書信等贗品賣給法蘭西學院科學院院士Michel Chasles（Académie des Sciences），該案件當年曾轟動整個歐洲文壇。
與本古籍合釘的Tartarin de Tarascon和Port-Tarascon是Daudet於 1872至1890年間筆下一系列小說。反英雄式的男主角Tartarin的個性與西班牙的唐吉訶德很相似，所以亦被稱為普羅旺斯的唐吉訶德。Tartarin 的故事主要以他到各地的冒險經歷為題，當中有提到住在上海的歐洲人（見Tartarin de Tarascon 第25-26頁）。最後一本的Tartarin 故事集Port-Tarascon叙述十九世紀八十年代，新愛爾蘭侯爵Charles de Rays 與Tarascon帶同他的鄉村子民遠征“巴布亞‧新幾內亞”（Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée），在那裡建立了商貿並實行殖民統治，最後一章以 Tartarin 失敗滅亡告終。
庇山耶時期所流行的暢銷小說，有不少以殖民者在異地歷險為主題，除了“異國風情”帶來的“遠遊無處不銷魂”感覺之外，也表現殖民者“勇於探索”的精神，作品常常帶給西方讀者無限的優越感，這些主題的文學作品，也深受當時不少異鄉遊子追捧。
