Macao Library Week 2016

Two years ago Gorsi Si passed by Macau Holy House of Mercy Albergue and found many bookstores inside: it was the time of the ‘Book Exchange’ activity, a major event of the Library Week. What is ‘Book Exchange’? The following explains how Si participated in this event.

First of all, Si had to prepare a book for donation. Si had both old and newly purchased books at his home. He brought these books to the library, where librarians calculated the book prices based on a grading criteria and confirmed his donation.

After making his donation, Si could obtain books of the same value. He studied architecture and hence secured works by the esteemed Japanese architect Kengo Kuma’s. He also acquired The World Is Flat and The Chrysanthemum and the Sword.

The activity therefore allows you to trade in books no longer wanted at home and make an exchange. Just like Si – perhaps you can also find your heart’s desire here.

‘2016 Macao Library Week’ will also present the ‘Back Periodicals Charity Sale’activity. All proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase books or reading material that will be donated to non–profit organizations. Past beneficiaries included Caritas Library, the Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind under the Macau Holy House of Mercy and Macao Deaf Association, etc.
