A REWARD FOR READING

Helping people develop reading habits since childhood has always been the focus of the education circles around the world. The launch of reading pack for infants and young children in many places has been widely welcomed by parents, laying an important foundation for cultivating reading literacy among families. However, with the prevalence of “electronic pacifier”, how could we let children put down cartoon videos and video games and open their world of reading? Which books are suitable for young children to read? How could we lead young children to enjoy reading? As a parent, you must have these very questions. This year, the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) will launch the “Toddler Reading Reward Programme” to provide children with reading materials, so that children can become friends with books from a young age.

1 Children’s reading materials

The “Reading Pack” contains a number of books that meet children’s reading needs of different periods. Parents can use the pack to create a warm and joyful reading time with their children through reading together, having interactions, and playing games, etc., so that children can enjoy reading in a relaxed and happy atmosphere. With the improvement of children’s reading ability, parents can also adjust the difficulty of reading according to their children’s level, cultivating their logical thinking, enabling them to have a deeper understanding of worldly things, and building a fortress of knowledge. It is worth mentioning that although the “Reading Pack” provides books for children of different ages, the books in each “Reading Pack” are different, and more surprises will be found the moment the pack is opened!

2 A list of recommended books

A variety of books are available on the market, but parents are often confused while choosing them. The list of recommended book list in the “Reading Pack”, which includes books of different fields from the Public Library’s collection, can be used by parents as a reference when preparing books for their children. Children can expand their knowledge and explore the ocean of knowledge!

3 The cloth bag of the Reading Pack

The exquisite books are also matched with durable cloth bags to accompany children’s good time of early reading. When parents and children share the fun of immersing in the sea of books, the cloth bag is an easy storage idea for parents, and gives children “space” to choose the books they are interested in.

In addition to covering books for different age groups, each Reading Pack of “Toddler Reading Reward Programme” also includes different books! (The above are some of the books from the pack)

MY LIBRARY MOBILE APP

Over the years, the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) has been continuously improving its services, and has recently optimized the “My Library” mobile application. In addition to services such as online book return and enquiry of activity information, the APP has added three new functions, including online payment, application/renewal of reader accounts, and switching between multiple accounts. Let me introduce to you these new functions.

ONLINE PAYMENT

With the popularization of electronic payment, the public can pay for their overdue or lost/broken items through the “MPay” or “BOC Mobile Banking” in the application, so that they can save time on paying the fine in person while not affecting the borrowing or renewal of other books and audiovisual materials!

APPLICATION/ RENEWAL OF READER ACCOUNTS

Previously, it was necessary for the public to visit the Library in person for the application/renewal of their reader’s accounts. Now, after they enter their specified personal information and upload the image of their identity document in the mobile app, the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau will complete the approval within 2 working days, which is convenient and fast.

SWITCHING BETWEEN MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS

For elderly or children at home who are not good at operating mobile applications, the newly added function can also be used to “support the elderly and the children”, which means users can use the account switching function to help their family members reserve library items, pay, and renew library materials so that they can enjoy the pleasure of reading by operating mobile phones.
