澳門資料室，一個中央圖書館的特別角落，這裏收藏着關於澳門的各種資料。 對於管理這個全館“最澳門”的資料空間又有哪些不一樣的挑戰呢？這期我們請到資深的澳門資料室工作人員Luis以及年輕的館員Chris分享他們的日常工作。
成哥，從何東圖書館時代的澳門資料室工作到今日澳門中央圖書館的澳門資料室，17個春秋都在這裏為讀者服務。成哥向我們表示：“澳門資料室的工作和普通借閱區有相似之處，就是書刊上架前包括更改館藏狀態、粘貼射頻識別碼（RFID）以及盤點這些準備功夫。最不一樣的地方是有時候讀者來到也未必能馬上找到他想要的資料，這時候我們就會記下他們的要求，然後盡力幫忙尋找，或是從書倉裏找，找到了以後再通知他們前來查看，但還是會有無法滿足他們的要求的時候。”
Chris，澳門資料室的新手工作人員，他表示曾在圖書館不同的崗位工作過，而澳門資料室工作人員的工作相對而言是頗具挑戰性。“使用澳門資料室服務的讀者很多都是專家、學者或者深有研究的市民，為他們以最快速度找到最精準的書籍資料真是很大的挑戰。現在圖書館的一般閱覽區有很多電子儀器去幫忙，而澳門資料室靠的不但是電腦，更多的是我們的經驗。像成哥一樣，對於查找一些熱門的書籍，基本上都不用電腦就知道擺放的位置，這是多年經驗累積的成果。” Chris如是說。
The Macao Collection Room is a special corner inside the Macao Central Library that keeps all kinds of data about Macao. What are the unusual challenges in managing this special library data space that ‘most represents Macao’? In this issue, Luis and Chris, a senior and a young staff member of the Macao Collection Room, are invited to share with us their daily routines at work.
For 17 years, Luis has served in the Macao Collection Room, which was previously situated in the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library and was later moved to its current location in the Macao Central Library. Luis told us, ‘There are resemblances between the work in the Macao Collection Room and that in the general reading area, we need to make the same preparations for books before shelving, such as updating the book status, attaching RFID tags and taking inventory. The biggest difference is that sometimes readers may not able to find the information they need at once, even if they have come personally to look for it. In this case we will jot down their requests and do our best to locate the information for them in the Room or in the Central Book Stack. We will inform them once we have it, but there are still times when we are unable to meet their requests.’
Chris, who is less senior in the Macao Collection Room, noted that he has worked at different positions in the library and working in the Macao Collection Room is relatively challenging. ‘Many of the service users of the Macao Collection Room are either experts, academics or knowledgeable residents, and it is a very big challenge to locate the most appropriate materials for them in the shortest time possible. Nowadays there are electronic devices to help (with finding books) in the general reading area of many libraries, while here in the Macao Collection Room, readers rely on not only computers, but what’s more, our experience. For instance, when finding certain frequently-searched items, Luis is able to know their shelving places without consulting acomputer. This is achieved with many years of experience,’ said Chris.

Q：澳門公共圖書館澳門資料室的作用是甚麽？
A：成立於1986年的澳門資料室主要職能是搜集、整理、保存和傳播有關澳門官方和民間的文獻資料，還有葡萄牙人在遠東的歷史文獻、以及保存澳門地區的出版物。透過澳門地方文獻展現澳門地方特色，讓人們從歷史、文物、風土人情等方面認識澳門的過去，也為民眾及研究人員提供諮詢服務以及推展各項相關活動。
Q：What are the functions of the Macao Collection Room in the Macao Public Library?
A：Established in 1986, the Macao Collection Room primarily serves to collect, organise, preserve and disseminate government and civil documents of Macao as well as historical records about the Portuguese in the Far East, while keeping local publications of Macao. The characteristics of Macao are presented through Macao's local literature, thereby allowing the public to understand of the past of the city from the perspective of history, cultural heritage, customs and traditions, and so on. It also facilitates relevant activities and provides reference service for the public and researchers.
Q：澳門資料室是面向大眾讀者開放的嗎？它和一般的圖書區有甚麽區別嗎？
A：澳門資料室是面向所有公眾開放的，不論是本地讀者、外地讀者，都可以使用。 讀者可於澳門資料室開放時間內直接向館員查詢所需書籍，也可於室內自行查找書籍，所有資料只限澳門資料室內閱讀，不能外借，閱畢安放於書桌上即可。而一般圖書區的書籍則提供外借服務。
Q：Is the Macao Collection Room open to the public? How is it different from the general book area?
The Macao Collection Room is open to the public, both local and foreign readers can enjoy the services. Readers can directly ask library staff about the books they need or look for the books by themselves during its opening hours. All materials within the Room can only be used onsite and cannot be borrowed. Readers may leave the materials on the tables after reading. On the other hand, loan services are available forbooks in the general book area.
Q：使用澳門資料室需要預約嗎？ 有甚麽注意事項？
A： 讀者不需預約，但若需參閱大量書刊，可事先知會工作人員。此外，附書光碟及少量獨立光碟也可在館（原室）內使用，另有縮微膠卷供讀者使用，有需要可向館員查詢。值得注意的是，澳門資料室保存的圖書資料比較珍貴，部分是絶版資料，請小心翻閱，妥善維護，以便下一位讀者使用。
Q：Is reservation needed for the use of the Macao Collection Room? What are the issues that readers should pay heed to?
A： Reservation is not required, but readers may inform library staff in advance for any long list of books or periodicals needed. In addition, CDs attached to the books and a small number of other CDs can be played in the Macao Collection Room, and materials on microfilm are also available. Readers may ask library staff for access to such materials when necessary. It is noteworthy that the materials stored in the Macao Collection Room are rather valuable with some of them being out-of-print editions. Readers should handle the materials properly with care so that they can be accessed by other readers in good condition.
