The exterior of Kaohsiung Public Library is  designed into a glass curtain, and from the sixth floor to the top floor there is a giant patio, introducing plenty of natural light.  Both of the eastern and southern balconies are filled with plants to avoid direct sunlight, and create soundproof effect, enabling reading in a green environment. The library has nine floors altogether with a collection of over 1 million books of Chinese and other languages, as well as a diverse variety of audiovisual materials for the readers. What is especially worth mentioning is the “International Picture Book Centre” located at the basement of the library. There are a wide range of excellent picture books from Asia, Europe and America. There are also activity areas for children, and interactive equipments for electronic picture books, adding fun to reading.
