Introduction of the Conference on Cooperative Development and Sharing of Chinese Resources

The CCDSCR was first initiated as an international cooperative conference in 2000, with its objectives to connect all libraries or information institutions worldwide that hold Chinese documents and to enhance cooperation and resources sharing among these organizations.  In the past 14 years, 10 conferences had been held in Beijing, Taipei, Macau, Nanjing, Hong Kong, Dunhuang and Lanzhou, with participants came from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, United States of America, United Kingdom and the Netherlands, etc.  Starting from 2006, the conference was scheduled biennially, with each conference lasting for 2 to 4 days.  For each conference, a main theme is set in order to facilitate discussion on the mutual construction and sharing of Chinese resources.  Other than topical reports on past projects, the participants also discuss cooperation of new projects.

The Council of the CCDSCR is responsible for the supervision and management of the organization of the conference, to assign the main theme and the organizer for each conference, to endorse the registration of new projects, to monitor the progress and concluding reports of established projects, to deliberate on the financial affairs and to discuss other major issues.  The Council comprises representatives from the National Library of China (NLC), the National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS), the Peking University Library, the Centre for Chinese Studies of Taiwan (CCS), the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL), Department of Public Library Management of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the Macau Library and Information Management Association (MLIMA) and the University of Chicago Library.  The council meeting is scheduled annually, with the 9th meeting having been held in Hong Kong in 2015.

Since the first conference, there have been 14 cooperative projects established, including catalogues of ancient books, rubbings, genealogy, digitization of documents, Chinese name authority, etc.
