Macao has always been an international city for both Chinese and foreigners. Although Macao maintained its neutrality during the Japanese invasion of China it did, nevertheless, help many refugees of different nationalities fleeing to the Mainland and Hong Kong. July of this year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. To commemorate the event, the ‘Literature of World War II’ in Books & the City will introduce five books written in Chinese, English and Portuguese for readers to recall those hard times through reading.

Once upon a time, Macao had a world-leading printing industry, the first foreign journal published by foreigners in China and the first Chinese-Portuguese bilingual newspaper. ‘The City of Printing’ narrates Macao’s influence on the printing technology in the last generation; whilst ‘Fun Reading for Children’ writes about the trial operation of the Taipa Library and how Macao writer Joe Tang and his two daughters enjoyed their parent-child reading in the colourful, brand new pavilion.

I wish you all enjoy the pleasure of reading!
