Livros Antigos
As Bibliotecas Públicas de Macau albergam uma colecção de cerca de 40.000 documentos raros, incluindo documentos chineses e ocidentais publicados antes de 1950, os quais se encontram arquivados na Biblioteca Sir Robert Ho Tung e na Biblioteca do Senado. A Sala de Obras Antigas e Raras Chinesas na Biblioteca Sir Robert Ho Tung, contém actualmente cerca de 20.000 documentos chineses raros, incluindo 16 itens de grande valor, provenientes da Torre da Biblioteca de Jiaye, anteriormente coligidos pelo conceituado bibliófilo moderno Liu Chenggan, destacando-se, em particular, a obra Weng Fanggang zuan si ku ti yao gao (Sinopses de Weng Fanggang do Siku Quanshu). Por sua vez, a Biblioteca do Senado alberga uma colecção de cerca de 20.000 documentos estrangeiros antigos do século XVI ao século XX, incluindo documentos históricos relativos à presença portuguesa no Extremo Oriente e documentação sobre os requisitos de Portugal nas suas colónias ultramarinas.

Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland（大不列顛及愛爾蘭皇家亞洲學會）於1824年8月11日獲喬治四世的皇家特許在倫敦成立，其宗旨是“調查和研究與亞洲相關的科學、文學及自然產物的課題”。該會自成立以來，隨著英國政府在亞州各地實施管治，先後在亞洲開設多個分會。1847至1859年在香港設立“皇家亞洲學會中國支會”（ China Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society）。第一任會長為美國宣教士裨治文（Elijah Coleman Bridgman），任職時期為1857年至1859年。1959年以 “皇家亞洲學會香港分會” （Royal Asiatic Society Hong Kong）之名復會至今。1857年在上海租界成立 “上海文理學會”（Shanghai Literary and Scientific Society），1858年7月20日併入“亞洲文會”，名為“皇家亞洲文會北中國支會”（North China Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society）。2007年以Royal Asiatic Society China in Shanghai之名復會。
皇家亞洲學會的會士（Fellows of the Royal Asiatic Society）多為研究亞洲的著名學者，他們通過講座、出版專著和學報（Journal of the North-China Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society）將研究成果推介到西方國家。學報創於1858年，於1948年停刊，歷時長達90年。
我館藏有該學報自 1865至1916出版的期號，主要是由華政衙門（Repartição do Expediente Sínico）收藏，當中的新系列第17冊第一卷有兩本相同，其中一本蓋有 Oferecido pelo Camilo Pessanha （庇山耶贈送），也有華政衙門繙譯房副繙譯官 Eduardo Marques 的親筆署名，由此證實這本書屬於庇山耶私人專用的藏書。大家都知道庇山耶是一位著名葡國詩人，他曾將中國古詩繙譯成葡文。本人試從他的讀物中尋找他在文學上創作的泉源。這份(第17冊)學報有四篇文章，當中的第一篇Notes on Chinese Composition是由英籍領事翟理斯（Herbert Giles, 1845-1935）所撰寫，內容是有關中文寫作的修辭方法，只有22頁。翟理斯曾在1881年10月的學術會議上發表，是他對漢語的各種修辭手法的筆記，當中的中文例句修辭都富有詩意（見13頁），或許能為庇山耶的寫作提供良好的範例和靈感。
