Distinguished guests and representatives,
Good morning!
Today, we assemble in the beautiful city, Macao, to attend the 11th Conference on Cooperative Development and Sharing of Chinese Resources (CCSSCR). I would like to send my warm greetings to all representatives on behalf of Han Yongjin, Director of the National Library of China, and express my sincerest gratitude to the organiser of the conference – the Department of Public Library Management under the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government – for their dedicated hard work.
CCSSCR is one of the most indicative meetings of representatives from libraries that hold Chinese documents. Thanks to the contribution of all stakeholders, the conference has secured notable achievements since the first conference in 2000 in Beijing: continuous improvement of exchange mechanisms, cooperative development and sharing of Chinese resources and coordination between libraries. The conference has endorsed over ten cooperative projects covering various fields including bibliography of rare books, rubbing, genealogy, document digitalisation, and standard of titles, etc., and has vigorously enhanced the dissemination of Chinese culture and influence of Chinese culture throughout the world.
Ten CCSSCR have been held and the 11th conference today is a new starting point. The theme of the conference – ‘Post-digital Era: the Cooperation, Utilization and Promotion of Chinese Resources’ – serves to embody the challenges we meet in the era. In the post-digital era, new information technology such as big data, cloud computing and mobile Internet have advanced swiftly. How will institutions that hold Chinese documents make good use of new technology and seize the opportunities in the face of challenge, improve their capabilities and service quality through cooperative development and sharing of resources while encouraging the dissemination of Chinese culture and sharing of its resources throughout the world? This is a crucial issue of the times. I hope that participants of the conferences will, with respect to the theme, put our heads together, make constructive comments, and benefit from advanced ideas and the practice of others as we exchange the experience of cooperative development and sharing of resources in various places. I believe that with our joint efforts, this conference will achieve novel results in terms of the experience in cooperative development and sharing of resources as well as theoretical discussion.
As a leading institution in the sector, the National Library of China has in recent years played a crucial role in the continuous support for cooperative development and sharing of Chinese resources. It has achieved decent outcomes in uniting the sector for developing and sharing of resources and social services through major projects including ‘Collaborative Survey and Digitalisation of Overseas Rare Chinese Books’, ‘Digital Library Promotion Project’ and ‘Preservation of Rare Chinese Books’, among others. I am pleased to share my experience in relevant tasks with you in this conference, and I am looking forward to an in-depth exchange and constructive discussion.
Chinese documents bear the splendid essence of Chinese culture. I hope that we can join hands to develop and share these Chinese resources in different territories and nations, and contribute to the prosperity of Chinese culture based on the principle of ‘achieving liberalised progress, complementation in advantages and joint development’.
Last but not the least, I wish the conference every success on behalf of National Library of China.

Good morning!
Organised biennially, the Conference on Cooperative Development and Sharing of Chinese Resources (CCDSCR) is a major event for the library sector. It aims to connect all libraries or information institutions worldwide that hold Chinese documents and enhance cooperation and resource sharing among these organizations.
Since 2000, 10 conferences have been held in Beijing, Taipei, Macao, Nanjing, Hong Kong, Dunhuang and Lanzhou, with participants from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom, among others. They discussed and exchanged their views about the cooperative development and sharing of Chinese resources through collaborative projects organised by libraries and information institutions in different places. This year, the 11th CCDSCR is to be held in Macao . As a melting pot of Eastern and Western cultures, Macao has preserved the valuable and time-honoured essence of cultural exchange. In particular, library development is indispensible in cultural policy and contributes to the elevation of the humanistic qualities of the residents. On this special occasion, local library representatives will meet foreign specialists in an endeavour to promote an alignment with international standards. They will share their wisdom and experience in preparation for the continuous development of libraries in the future.
I am very proud to receive the participants in this conference hosted here in Macao! I hope that each of you will not only enjoy the conference and find inspiration here, but also experience the charisma of Macao.
